Merritt is a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Law School. She is an Adjunct Professor of Cybersecurity at the University of Maryland and was an Adjunct at University of Pennsylvania.
At Harvard Law School, Merritt was selected as a member of the Berkman Center's Internet Safety Technical Task Force providing online safety recommendations to the US Attorneys General. She conducted National Security and Internet research with Professors Jack Goldsmith and Phil Heymann.
Merritt was a Lecturer in the Harvard University English Department; served as President of the Native American Law Students Association; and served on the Executive Board of the Harvard Journal of Law and Gender.
Merritt received a number of academic honors for her senior undergraduate thesis, Economics of Bhutanese Marriage. She was selected to the USA Today All-Academic First Team, recognizing the top 20 college students in America. Merritt is a native of Denver, Colorado.
